NATURE & SUSTAINABILITY

Green approach

Located on the edge of Karura Forest, Terra Moyo is a school where nature is woven into everyday life. We believe children are more likely to care for the natural world when they spend time in it, understand it and develop a genuine connection with it. Through daily outdoor experiences, forest learning and sustainability projects, children learn to observe, question and appreciate the world around them while developing a deep respect for nature.

As children grow, they develop an understanding of the interconnectedness of people, plants, animals and ecosystems. They explore environmental challenges, learn about the fragility of the natural world and discover how individual actions can make a positive difference. Our aim is to nurture environmentally responsible young people who understand that caring for the planet begins with the choices we make every day.

Sustainability in Action

We believe sustainability is best understood through action. Throughout the school, children are encouraged to take responsibility for their environment and contribute to projects that make a positive difference. Whether growing vegetables, caring for school chickens, planting indigenous trees, reducing waste, creating with recycled materials or participating in community clean-up initiatives, children experience sustainability as something practical, meaningful and achievable.

This commitment extends beyond the curriculum and is reflected in the way our school operates. From our solar-powered campus and water conservation systems to recycling initiatives and environmentally conscious practices, we aim to model the values we hope to inspire in our students and demonstrate that small actions can contribute to meaningful change.

We are an Eco-School

Terra Moyo is proud to be recognised as an Eco-School and to have been awarded the internationally recognised Green Flag accreditation. This recognition reflects the ongoing efforts of our students, staff and families to create positive environmental change both within the school and in the wider community.Through student-led projects, environmental initiatives and hands-on learning experiences, children are encouraged to move beyond awareness and become active participants in caring for the world around them. We believe education should empower children not only to understand environmental challenges, but also to recognise that they can be part of the solution.
